It seems like the norm for engagement ring diamonds just keep getting bigger. Among acquaintances in my age group, I can almost pinpoint the year they got engaged by the size of their diamond. Engaged in grad school? You’re lucky if you got a full carat. Engaged after college in your late 20’s, you are proudly wearing a full 2 carats. Were you the last of your group to get picked? Chances are you are hovering right around 3 carats.
But now as this scenario plays out again 10 years later, it seems like the baseline has moved. Couples just out of college are starting at 2 carats, and it is all up from there. And hey, good for them.
