Have you been shopping for an engagement ring and been disappointed by the high price tag on anything that you liked? Or are you simply trying to buy a look-alike to your diamond engagement ring to travel with? Want to propose with a fake and save up money for the real thing later down the road? Or just keep your creepy co-worker from asking you out?
These are all valid reasons why couples (or singles) opt for a “fake” engagement ring and/or wedding ring. Today there are many options for fabulous fakes, including high-quality cubic zirconium, moissanite engagement rings, and pricier lab created diamonds.
In this article, let’s explore what you can get on a budget of $500 or less – and yes, you CAN get a great fake that will fool your friends for under $200 easy! I’ve found a great assortment of fake engagement rings on Amazon from top-rated sellers including Clara Pucci. So follow along.
How to Pick a Fake Engagement Ring that Looks Real
Some fake rings are obviously fake, while others can fool even the most discerning eye. Below are some tips to pull off a brilliant engagement ring imposter that will pass inspection.
Tip 1:
Pick a 14kt Gold Setting for Your Fake Diamond Ring
Â
There are many reasons to go for a 14k gold setting on an imitation diamond ring. Even though this option is more expensive up front, you will reap the rewards in the longevity of your chosen ring. Unlike cheap alloys, 14k gold will not rust, turn your finger green, or bend out of shape easily. If your chosen setting has pavé stones, this is a more secure setting to prevent loss of stones.
Most importantly, if you plan on being married with a gold wedding band, it will look seamless next to your engagement ring if you plan to wear them on the same finger, as most women do.
Tip 2:
Pick a Realistic-Size “Diamond” for your Fake Engagement Ring
If you just spent the past 6 months whining to your friends that you could not get engaged because every ring you like was too expensive, and then you show up with a huge piece of ice on your hand you friends will either think you just robbed a bank, or that your ring is a fake. Stick with a realistically sized ring. No more than 2 ct. But honestly, 1 carat is probably the sweet spot for a believable fake ring. The ring pictured above features a 1.4 ct CZ stone in a 14kt rose gold setting. Perfection IMO.
Tip 3:
Say NO to Celebrity Look-Alike Engagement Rings
I know it is tempting to go for the JLo Pink Diamond look-alike engagement ring or the Kim Kardashian step cut trapezoid knock-off ring once you decide to go the fake ring route. But remember, this is a ring you are (hopefully) going to be wearing for a long time. Get a classic style that is not trendy or fad-y – and especially not on the cover of People magazine. Per my recommendations above, make it classic, make it small and believable, and most importantly, make it gold. And no one will be the wiser.
Fake Diamond Wedding Bands
A few months down the line you may be looking for a wedding band to go with that engagement ring you purchased. You can find a good assortment of plain and diamond simulant wedding rings on Amazon as well. In fact, Clara Pucci has a wide range of styles and even sells some of their engagement rings with wedding bands in “Bridal Sets”. Make sure to check these out as well.
