If you are looking for a pear halo engagement ring, your choices are limited. Blue Nile does not offer them, but James Allen does. Why?
The one thing I have noticed when looking for a pear halo engagement ring – or any halo engagement ring for that matter – is that some have a gap between the stone and the halo, and others do not. So this morning, I took it upon myself to call James Allen at the phone number listed on their website to get to the bottom of this.
The James Allen rep on the phone explained to me that each James Allen ring is custom made for the diamond you select. When you walk into a retail store you may be selecting your diamond, and selecting a setting and then the stone is set for you into that setting. If the setting is a little large or your stone is a little small, you get that gap. Whereas with JA, the setting is custom fitted around the stone you select. Thus ensuring a proper fit and no spaces or gaps between your setting and the main diamond – whether you select a 0.5 ct diamond or a 1.5 carat diamond or anything in between. This is how you get that high-end custom look worthy of your beloved! Each ring made in this fashion by James Allen is then inspected by a gemologist who ensures that it meets their high standard. And once the ring is shipped to you, JA continues to warranty it for life. Meaning that any issues you may have down the road with loose prongs is covered for repair by them.
This process if labor intensive and not all jewelers go through it. That explains a lot of the gaping halo settings I have been seeing around, and their cheap prices. But at $950 for this James Allen Micro Pave Pear Halo engagement ring setting, I think you’re getting quite a bargain.
