Things to Know Before Buying from Houston Diamond District
Houston Diamond District sells a wide variety of engagement rings and other fine jewelry on Amazon, and gets many 5-star reviews from customers. Here are a few things to know when considering a purchase from them:
Engagement Ring Renders vs Photographs
Ever wonder why the photos on so many engagement rings look the same? This is because sellers use stock photography or “renders” to represent each engagement ring style instead of photographing every ring in their inventory. To see what the ring will look like IRL scroll down on the listing page to look for customer’s own photographs in the product reviews. While I can not reproduce customer photographs on this blog due to Amazon’s policies, I can link you to some engagement ring listings with customer images so you can compare. Nothing beats a real-life photo.
Here are some Houston Diamond District Listings with Customer Photography in the product reviews:
- Houston Diamond District Princess Cut in a Pavé Diamond Band
- Houston Diamond District Scroll Setting in Rose Gold
- Houston Diamond District 1/2 Carat Solitaire
- Houston Diamond District Princess Cut Solitaire
Houston Diamond District Certificate of Authenticity
Diamonds which have been certified by an independent laboratory like GIA are usually more expensive than stones which are not. While Houston Diamond District does sell many rings with GIA certifications, they also sell plenty of stones without. If the listing you are looking at contains a GIA certified stone it will say so in the product title as shown in the image above. If it does not say the stone is GIA certified then do not assume that it is. In these cases, it may come with a “Certificate of Authenticity” from the jeweler which is not the same thing as an independent lab’s certification. These stones may be equally beautiful, but the lack of certification will result in a lower price.
TCW Means Total Carat Weight
When looking at listings from Houston Diamond District you’ll notice many of them contain 2 numbers. The first carat weight shown in the title is usually the Total Carat Weight (TCW) of the entire ring. This is the weight of the center stone plus the weight of all side stones and pavé accents combined. The second weight is specifically for the center stone. Don’t confuse these two numbers. As in the example above, there’s a significant difference between a 1 carat and 1.43 carat center stone so read carefully and know what you’re buying.
Houston Diamond District Moissanite
Houston Diamond District has begun selling some engagement rings with Moissanite center stones. Moissanite is a popular man-made diamond substitute with a cost advantage over diamonds. If you’re open to a moissanite stone you can get a larger center stone engagement ring. If not, just make sure you’ve read the listing carefully and know what you’re purchasing.
